Rooster fishing in Costa Rica is an amazing experience. Known for their aggressive strikes, powerful fights, and distinctive dorsal fin, roosterfish are one of the most sought-after species by sport fishermen, especially in the Pacific waters of Guanacaste.

Best Target Species
Roosterfish are commonly found near rocky points in shallow waters of 50 to 60 feet. For the best results, live bait such as small bonitos, ladyfish, or blue runner is recommended, as it increases the chances of catching larger specimens.
Live bait is typically prepared shortly before the trip, as the best bait—small tuna—can only be kept alive for a limited time using specialized equipment. Artificial lures such as poppers can also be used, but they usually attract smaller fish.
